Essential Duties and Responsibilities : I. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Plan and coordinate installation of in-house and remote network hardware and software across the organization’s network. 2. Design and implement short and long-term strategic plans to make certain network capacity meets existing and future requirements. 3. Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network resource administration and appropriate use. 4. Develop and deploy methodologies for testing network performance and providing network performance statistics and reports. 5. Manage and ensure optimal operation of all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, UPSs, and standby generators, etc. 6. Manage and ensure effectiveness of security solutions, including firewalls, anti-virus solutions, and intrusion detection and protection systems. 7. Conduct research and make recommendations on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts. 8. Assist in negotiations with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services. 9. Assess and/or administer all network equipment, hardware, and software upgrades. 10. Establish backup and restore strategy; tested plans for recovery from loss of network segments; built-in network redundancy planning and implementation. 11. Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the department head, and end users regarding pertinent network activities. 12. Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation. 13. Define and document network infrastructure and configurations. 14. Establish service level agreements with end users. 15. Ensuring that the IT infrastructure and applications supported are available 24/7. 16. Monitoring of security threats.

Basic Purpose of Position
Responsible for all aspects of network administration, including servers, desktops systems, communications hardware/software, and office systems.

Qualifications/Experience
Essential: i. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or related field with 5-7 years experience supporting computer networks OR ii. Bachelor’s Degree and at least two appropriate Certifications: i.e. CCNA- Cisco Certified; Network Associate; Security + with minimum 7 years experience supporting computer networks; Desirable: iii. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or closely related field with 7 years experience supporting computer networks; AND iv. At least two appropriate Certifications: i.e. CCNA- Cisco Certified; Network Associate; Security +; Experience: i. Experience in the installation of microcomputer hardware and software and the configuration and administration of local and wide area networks. ii. Four years’ experience involving the installation of micro-computer hardware and software and the configuration and administration of local and wide area networks, two years of which must have included the implementation of information technology projects. iii. Experience managing and configuring enterprise-wide LANs, WANs, LANs, VPNs, etc. iv. Supervising capabilities would be a plus.

Competencies/Skills: Technical: v. Extensive knowledge of legacy and current innovations and technology in information systems. vi. Exceptional technical knowledge of Network and PC operating systems. vii. Hands-on experience installing and troubleshooting hardware such as servers, routers, bridges, switches, hubs, modems, and network interface cards. viii. Excellent knowledge of the components of a technical environment, i.e. network hardware and software, networking topologies, current protocols and standards (ISO), security, deployment and administration, server applications, etc. ix. Extensive application support experience. x. Knowledge and understanding of system flow charts, data processing concepts, and telecommunications principles. xi. Experience and knowledge of installing structured network cabling and patching. xii. Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required. xiii. Good understanding of the department’s goals and objectives. xiv. Knowledge of VOIP technologies. Behavioral: xv. Strong leadership and personnel management skills. xvi. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. xvii. Ability to discharge duties in a fashion that aligns responsibilities with the goals of the department. xviii.
