1. LEADS in the preparation of specimens/samples for the performance of the required testing, ensuring that proper procedures are followed to avoid mislabeling and confusion.
2. PERFORMS various tests using laboratory instruments and techniques, as required by physicians, ensuring proper procedures and standards are adhered to in order to obtain accurate results.
3. ANALYSES and interprets test results, ensuring their accuracy and validity, in order to make accurate submissions to medical physicians.
4. MEASURES for the presence of antibodies in blood to indicate infection utilizing various agents.
5. REPORTS and documents test findings, and forwards to supervisor, using the appropriate computer system, in order to provide timely medical laboratory results.
6. CONDUCTS chemical analysis of body fluids, including blood, urine and spinal fluid, to determine presence of normal and abnormal components, to ensure quality and safety of patient care by providing accurate diagnostic and treatment information to medical practitioners.
7. CROSSCHECKS data from analysis of laboratory, tests and clinical results into record-keeping systems, and reporting results to medical practitioners and other health professionals.
8. SUPEVISES the maintenance of safe and clean working environment by ensuring compliance with procedures, rules, and regulations.
9. PERFORMS routine calibration of laboratory equipment and devices for use, ensuring safety procedures are adhered to in order to obtain the most accurate and reliable results.
10. LEADS in taking inventory of all laboratory materials supplies, and forward these to supervisor for verification, in order to keep track of all supplies and ensures timely replenishment, in order to avoid unnecessary expiration of products and for overall accountability.
11. COMPLETES replenish form and submits to supervisor for verification for replenishment, so as to continuity of services with limited or no interruption due to lack of laboratory materials and supplies.
12. VERIFIES that all shelves, cabinets, vaults and work areas are labelled properly, for the creation of a safe, accident-free and healthy working environment.
13. PARTICIPATES in professional development training sessions and stays abreast of amendments to the relevant legislation ensuring clarity in its interpretation and applications.
14. PERFORMS other related duties or tasks as assigned.
